Thailand
In south-central Thailand, the once extensive wetlands on the floodplain of the Chao Phraya and several other large rivers have been almost entirely converted to agricultural land. The largest lake in central Thailand, Beung Boraphet, was formed by the damming of a large swamp, and constitutes the single most important wintering site for ducks in the country. The largest wetland in the south is Kale Songkhla, a series of shallow coastal lagoons with fresh and brackish water. There are also many estuarinesystems with mangrove swamps and mudflats along the coast, the most extensive and species-rich occurring along the west coast.
